Bike
Patrol

I approached the Chief of Police and the Police Commissioner and asked to
start a bike patrol. I was told their was not any money budgeted for a bike
patrol, so I went to the downtown businesses and asked for donations. The
donations bought the bike and a carrier for the car. The City bought the
uniforms and equipment.
The main focus is the downtown area, because it is a popular place for
the young people to cruise and hang-out. The program was a success. I also use
the bike to help patrol at our semi-annual bluegrass festivals held at
Hillsboro's Sherwood Forest Campground to check on campers and control traffic.
The City of Hillsboro also has an Old Settler's Celebration every year,
and it is always packed with people. The bike patrol was used and worked
excellent with all the congestion of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. I was even
able to get medical equipment to the ambulance crew faster.
